Every crew lead already carries a GPS receiver accurate to a few meters — it's in their pocket. The question isn't whether your scheduling app can use that little blue dot. It's whether doing so actually saves you a phone call, prevents a blown pour, or gets a delivery to the right gate. Most "location intelligence" pitches skip that part. Start with the problem GPS actually solves
The value of location on a construction schedule comes down to one thing: tying a task to a place, not just a date. A traditional bar-chart schedule tells you drywall hang runs Tuesday through Thursday. It doesn't tell you drywall hang is happening in Building C, third floor, north wing — while the elevator inspector needs that same corridor Wednesday morning. On a big site, most of your fires aren't "what" or "when." They're "where," and two trades finding out too late that they both booked the same 20 feet of hallway.
Good short-interval scheduling already handles this with location-based planning — you break the work down by area (building, level, zone, apartment stack) and sequence trades through those areas like a train through stations. Deliveries and travel time on a spread-out site
Delivery coordination is one place location data quietly pays for itself. A supplier ETA that flips your unloading window from "sometime Tuesday" to "20 minutes out" lets you pull a crew to receive instead of parking a flatbed and eating standby charges. Tie the delivery to the zone that needs the material, and the guys unloading know it's going to the C-stack gate, not the main entrance. On a tight urban site with one hoist and a booked street permit, that's the difference between a smooth drop and a $600 re-delivery.
Travel time is the sleeper cost on any large or campus-style project. Move a plumber from Building A to Building D and back twice a day and you've quietly burned an hour of a two-hour task in boot time.
