If your electrician is telling you rough-in wraps Wednesday, your rough electrical inspection can't be scheduled for Wednesday. It gets requested Wednesday, called for Thursday or Friday depending on how far out your building department is booking, and only after it passes can insulation and drywall start. That's a real dependency chain, and it belongs in your short-interval schedule where the whole team can see it.

Build the Lead Time Into Your Look-Ahead

Every jurisdiction has an inspection request lead time. Some let you call at 7 a.m. for a next-day slot. Others want 48 to 72 hours, and in a busy market you can lose a week if you miss the window. Learn your building department's cadence in the first month of the job and treat it as a fixed constraint.

Here's the rhythm that keeps you out of trouble. Work your look-ahead three to four weeks out and flag every inspection point in that window. Then, roughly a week ahead, confirm the trade is genuinely on track to be ready — not "should be done," but walked and verified. Two to three days out, submit the actual request.   • Housekeeping. Trash and debris in the way, prior corrections from the last visit not addressed. An inspector who sees sloppy conditions inspects harder.

A re-inspection has the same lead time as the original call, so a failed Friday inspection often means you don't recover until mid-next-week. These have longer lead times and often need to observe work in progress, not just the finished condition. You can't call a special inspector after the concrete's poured to look at the rebar — they had to be there before the pour.

Put these on the look-ahead earlier than your standard inspections, because they gate major operations. A missed special inspection on a placement can mean coring, testing, or in a bad case tearing out and redoing structural work.
