A foreman's day is a string of small decisions made under time pressure, most of them about sequence: who goes where next, what's ready, what's blocked, and who needs to hear about it in the next ten minutes. For most of my career, all of that information lived in three places — a printout that was already wrong by 9 a.m., the superintendent's head, and a whiteboard in the trailer that only got updated when someone remembered. You pull up today: three activities, the crews assigned, the locations, and — this is the part people underuse — the two or three items due to finish tomorrow that today's work feeds into. Answering "Is It Ready?" Without Walking to the Trailer
The single biggest time sink for a working foreman is the interrupt. A sub walks up: "Are we clear to start the overhead rough-in on the second floor?" The honest answer is usually "let me find out," and finding out meant a trip to the trailer, a radio call, or waiting until the super circled back. Multiply that by a dozen interrupts a day.
With the plan in your pocket, a lot of those get answered on the spot. You can see whether the predecessor activity is marked complete, whether the inspection cleared, whether another trade is still in that area. That's the real payoff of mobile access — not that it's digital, but that it collapses the distance between the question and the answer. When you can flag a constraint the moment you see it — snap a photo of the conflict, tie it to the activity it threatens — you've turned a problem into a tracked item instead of a lost note.
